What else is on the market?

My magazine will be based around pop and rock music. So main well known hip hop artists, I’m doing this because I believe it is the most likely to sell the best and have the most interest when reading it. This is because when I did my questionnaire these to genres of music where actually the two most popular ones out of all that I gave the option to choose from.

One big name pop and rock music magazine is a very well-known one who are called Q who mainly are the dominate force in that specific market mainly because of the big names that they are able to interview, such as Cheryl Cole, Adlele, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay ect. This is mainly the reason as to why they dominate the market because people are really interested to see what the big names in music are up to so they buy Q instead of the smaller magazines who are unable to interview as many people. Q is being sold in many different places one popular place I researched of where it was being sold was WHSmith. This will help me figure out where to sell my magazine and what target audience will be looking to find that type of genre of magazine.

Also other research I have found out about Q is that the majority of readers who read Q are male with 66.2%. Then 83.8% of readers are aged 15-44 years old this gives me lots of data to help find my specific target audience because it helps me gather an idea who reads these sorts of magazines.

Audience target

My audience target I would use is probably around the age of 16-25. This is the age I think I would be able to get the most sales and most interest for my target audience. I know this because of my research on the Q magazine and how I will present it to be suitable to my target audience.

Where would you sell it?

I would sell my magazine mainly in the newsagents and places such as tesco etc. But I would also sell my magazine in places such as airports because from my own experience I have seen that usually people do by lots of magazines when at the airport for something to read. I believe this is the location where I will be able to get the most revenue.

Questionnaire analysis

Questionnaire analysis

In my questionnaire I asked 7 different people 8 questions regarding to my planning of music magazine. The first question I asked was simply are you male or female? 5 of the 7 people said they were male and the other 2 were female. This helps me to try and see my different sort of target audiences to where I make my magazine more female or male based. But when I do start to write my audiences I won’t actually pick a gender target audience I will just make it mixed so it is suitable for both sexes.

The next question that I asked in my questionnaire is how old are each of the participants. One stated that they were 0-10 years old then 4 said they were 11-20 and the other two said they were 40+. This helps me revolve around what age I should focus my target audience on. Out of this research I have decided to go with the teenager route of 11-20 year olds as purely I have more data based around that age than any other.

Now for this question I asked, ‘What type of music are you into?’ Every single person I actually asked said pop apart for one how ticked rape. This now gives me a very good idea of what to focus my magazine around of which music genre and focus on articles about that.

Question 3 was do you often buy music magazines out of the seven only one actually said yes and this person was not a teenager they were in fact 40+. This is quite a negative piece of information but the key word in the question was ‘often’ so they may still by music magazines but not as frequently as some people.

The next question in the questionnaire was, ‘How much would you spend on a music magazine?’ For this question I got a mixed range of answers the most same answer I got was 2 people and that was for 2 different answers, one of them was £1.51-£2.00 and the other was £2.00-£2.51. This really helps me in finding how much to price my magazine because I do actually have 2 answers to choose from.

After that question I then asked ‘how long do you spend reading music magazines?’ Here the majority bare one said 0-15 minutes but the other said 16-30 minutes. This helps me in finding how long and detailed I should make my magazine because if I try to make the whole magazine an hours read not many people would actually read the whole of it.

For my next question I asked, ‘What type of music articles do you read?’ Most people apart from 2 said that they would rather listen to pop articles than any other this helps me now to know what people are most likely to read and find the most interesting.

Then finally for my last question I asked, ‘Where would you buy your magazine from?’ Everyone apart form 2 people actually said that they would buy their music magazine in a newsagent. This helps me into knowing where to send my magazines when they are published to be sold at the highest rate because the majority of people will actually be looking there.
